Project Developer

The Solar Project Developer is responsible for the land and project development of a variety of large-scale solar projects. They will originate and develop a pipeline of solar projects, manage projects through development. This position will also manage budgets for development and permitting, and will assist in developing competitive off-take marketing, competitive analysis, and internal communications for the portfolio of projects assigned to this position.

• Assist the director of project development with coordination of project development and construction activities for solar PV projects.
• Assist with preparation of budgets and schedules for all activities related to project development.
• Participate in meetings with different stakeholders, e.g., landowners, communities, authorities, and consultants.
• Prepare site visits and help evaluate the local conditions based on relevant engineering criteria.
• Collaborate with local authorities to obtain sectoral permits and comply with mandatory procedures.
• Execute terms of reference for contracting services, review proposals, and specify commercial conditions with service providers.
• Support the technical team in reviewing and evaluating projects applying technical and financial criteria.
• Follow up on the construction process, and engage with subcontractors to secure the project results in terms of quality, time, and cost.
• Help secure ESG standards during the development and construction activities.

• 2 years of project development experience with at least one 1 year focused on electrical energy.
• Knowledge of project development processes and legal requirements to move projects into the ready-to-build stage.
• Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to actively drive projects to completion.
• General regulatory knowledge of the electricity sector preferred (both for large-scale projects and distributed generation projects in Alberta.)
• Knowledge of the overall Canadian energy market.
• High proficiency in MS Office programs.
• Knowledge of geographic information systems preferred (Shape files, ArcGis, QGIS)
• Experience with renewable energy design software preferred: (Pvsyst, HelioScope, Homer)

• Bachelor's degree is required (major in business, math, economics, accounting, finance, environmental science and/or engineering preferred.) Master’s degree a plus.

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials.

This position will travel frequently.
